If there’s one thing I wish I had done differently when my children were growing up, it would’ve been capturing their birthdays with a family photoshoot. I have plenty of photos from their birthday parties, but a family photoshoot is such a different and special way to mark these early milestones – the children are not overwhelmed and distracted, and get to interact solely with their family in a fun and beautiful setting. Its surely the best way of guaranteeing timeless portraits, and ones that will never leave a parent trying to remember what age the child was in those images, in years to come.
Amy’s parents did just that. Visiting from Johannesburg, and squeezing in a quick late morning birthday photoshoot during the busy birthday schedule, we shot at that classic Cape Town beauty spot, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
This little darling was a pleasure to photograph – with her show-stopping blue eyes, and constant toothy grin, she’s a natural in front of the camera. Mandy’s mother and aunt also came along, and I think Amy loved having her parents and extended family doting on her for an hour!
Happy first birthday, Amy! Mandy and Charl – you have such a sweet-natured and easy going little girl! Enjoy your photos.
